UNILAD-ISIS13

Friday’s attack did not occur without a greater context. Though it’s too soon to speak with certainty, it would appear that ISIS (aka Islamic State, aka ISIL) is beginning to weaken and may soon collapse. The evidence for this proposition is plentiful. After years of superhuman military performance in which towns fell to the group in a matter of hours, often having been emptied of resistance beforehand by the sheer (justified) terror of remaining, great swathes of IS-held territory are now falling (just as rapidly) to Syrian and Kurdish troops. The controversial Russian intervention seems to have greatly diminished ISIS morale and the US and UK drone strikes (which today disposed of a particularly vicious fool known as Jihadi John) are steadily picking off the group’s here-today, gone-tomorrow leadership. And while ISIS boasts of being the penultimate destination of all Muslim believers, the number of ‘Western’ Muslims travelling to Syria to join the nascent Caliphate has been falling consistently for months, perhaps a reflection of a declining reputation on its part.

Let’s be optimistic and presume this is the case. Let’s presume that ISIS has but a few more blood-soaked months of life left in it. What happens then? What should happen to the thousands (and there are still many thousands) of ISIS members when their protective unity is no more? Obviously, this will initially require one of the largest mass arrests since the fall of Nazi Germany. But what comes after that? What sentence or punishment would be sufficient for the crimes these savages have delighted in committing over the past five years?

You’ve probably guessed my answer already, but I’ll detail it regardless. If an ISIS militant is captured in the midst of combat, he should face the death penalty. If this sounds excessive (and I’m sure you don’t think so), remember that had any of the medieval crimes ISIS members have committed over the last few years been committed in America, a death sentence would have been issued in every case. This really is no different. Furthermore, we’re already issuing death sentences from the air with our drone strikes. I can think of no valid counter-argument to this.

After the fall of ISIS, captured fighters should not be extradited to their home countries, but promptly turned over to the Syrian military (the Kurds, Russians and Jordanians are too humane). Given the moral standards of the Assad regime, we can be sure the correct action will be taken, and with little compassion or fanfare. ISIS members have lived by the sword, and they shall die by it, too. For over half a decade, they have massacred uncountable civilians, beheaded them, cut their arms off for ‘witchcraft’ and other imaginary offences, thrown gays from the top floor of bombed-out buildings, gang-raped non-Muslim women, and sold others into sexual slavery. They have recently shot 200 CHILDREN in the head and uploaded footage of the crime onto the internet. Before that, they butchered Christians on the shores of the Mediterranean, turning the sea a dark shade of red. They fed other Christians to dogs, watching gleefully as they were agonisingly ripped apart.

Just as the Nazis were hung for their crimes, so must ISIS hang for theirs.

Over the past two years, a period in world history dominated by economic crisis and extreme violence, the Daily Mail newspaper has published small variations of the same story at least three times. It concerns the shadowy manoeuvres of a sub-division of ISIS called the al-Khansa brigade, notable for being made up exclusively of young women.

According to reports, the al-Khansa brigade is responsible for enforcing a harsh Sharia-compliant lifestyle upon women in ISIS controlled territories. If and when women fall short of Sharia standards (say, by wearing a veil of thin material, leaving it slightly transparent), members of the brigade are said to arrest the offending female and take her to a dungeon, wherein they pinch her, beat her, confine her and otherwise torture her within an inch of her life. If the offence is ‘severe’ meanwhile (some extremity of the body being entirely revealed, adultery, lesbianism etc..) the brigade arranges for the prisoner to be stoned to death.

While some have doubted the veracity of these reports (an understandable position when one considers the record of the Daily Mail), we have every reason to believe this brigade exists, and in the fashion described. Indeed, in an interview with Sky News (later reported in the Independent newspaper), an account of the activities of the brigade was recounted by a woman claiming to be a former member. The woman, then 20 years of age, told the journalists that her job “was to lash women who tried to escape or wore the wrong clothes” and that “the women who were caught trying to escape would receive 60 lashes, while women who simply wore heels or were not wearing the proper Islamic dress known as the abaya, were ‘given the ‘standard’ 40 lashes’.”

(Note: When reading of people being ‘lashed’ in the context of the Muslim world, one should never presume the lash to be a thin, flimsy or light, but thick and heavy like rope. People have died from being punished this way).

Of course it’s easy to understand why (among the thousands of cruelties exacted by ISIS fighters) this particular story has proven enduringly popular. Firstly, it appeals to the darkest recesses of the Western male mind – the unlit zone attracted to Sadism, Masochism and fascinated with the exotic and the forbidden. And secondly, it is because of the natural shock people feel when hearing of acts of brutality committed by the fairer sex, something seemingly incongruous and running against the universal grain.

But is it really so rare?

We in the West have become so used to perceiving women as victims of Islam that we probably forget there are women who want to be Muslim; that there are women who choose for themselves a very extreme interpretation of the Koran, often against the wishes of their spouse or family; in short, that women can be irrational and evil too.

Given this reality, I would say that dealing with Jihadi women should be no more morally complicated than dealing with their male counterparts. There is no feminine value left in the ranks of al-Khansa and so they must annihilated with the same ruthlessness (and with the same weapons) as IS’s frontline troops. If they are captured and refuse to provide information, they shouldn’t be spared ‘enhanced interrogation techniques’ either. When you betray your sex to such a dreadful extent, you sacrifice the privileges of being that sex.

Although considered by Western Powers to be ‘resolved’, the military conflict between Serbs and Albanians over the territory of Kosovo continues with great intensity at every sub-political level. On internet forums in particular, poetically restrained and level-headed comments like the following are uploaded almost every day:

“Fucking Anal-banian goat-herding Turks! Get the fuck out of Europe, you filthy Muslim mongols! We should fucking genocide you.” – “Serbian monkey filth, bending over and taking Russian Slavic dick. How does Putin’s cock taste, fucking bitches.” – “Albanian Pakistani Arab goat monkey Turk swine! Don’t act fucking Italian, Turkish filth!” – “Funny Slavs called us Turks! Slavs were Turkish slaves! That’s why they are called SLAVS! You are lower than sand monkeys, Slavic Serbo-degenerate peasants.”

And so on…

Needless to say, these crazed ejaculations are degrading to their authors and wholly unbefitting of European affairs.

How did this happen? How did two neighbourly European countries become charged with an enthusiasm for genocide?

The answer is the Islamic religion and the chaos caused by its introduction onto a Christian continent.

The Ottoman Empire’s European domain was maintained in the same way that it was created, with the sword and the heavy-hands of the state. In occupied Albania, proud, inassimilable Europeans were treated like second-class citizens in their own countries, and only converted subjects were entreated with privilege and the favour of the authorities. After many patriotic residents, repulsed by the Islamising trend, fled to the safety of Western European countries, the orthodoxies of Islam slowly became the norm in Albanian society, with the nation all but Islamised in two centuries of occupation.

From that moment on, Albania has been a geopolitical oddity on the European continent; an oddity whose accommodation has proven beyond the wiles of various European statesmen. It is undoubtedly true that Albania is a European country, and DNA tests on the general population have confirmed that is native to the land. But what is more difficult to decide is whether Albania is a part of the European cultural community.

This confusion would lie dormant for many centuries, eventually only coming to the fore as a result of tensions with the Serbs.

Serbian nationalists claim Kosovo as a hallowed territory in their national history. It was the sight of a destructive battle ‘The Battle of Kosovo’ in 1389 in which Serbian troops sought to repel an Ottoman invasion. Since that date, the territory has been romantically evoked by Serbian nationalists in poetry, music and literature.

When the territory eventually was secured by the Ottomans (after the Battle described above), the region was overwhelmingly Serbian. By the fall of the Ottomans in the 19th century however, the region was markedly more cosmopolitan, with Muslim Albanians now comprising a large proportion of its inhabitants.

This miserable time for Serbia was later horribly exacerbated by the long dictatorships of the Nazis and Soviets. After the fall of the latter, the region of Kosovo once again became a matter of racial dispute.

The Serbs, seeking to carve out a new state along the lines of their historic homeland naturally wanted to reverse the injustices of the Ottoman period. The Albanians, having benefited immensely from their centuries of favour with the Muslim authorities, naturally wished for the region to remain Albanian. When the conflict became bestial and corpses piled up in the forests, the US intervened on the side of the Albanians, leading to the quasi-independent state of Kosovo.

The trend for Counter-Jihadis, for obvious reasons, has been to back the Serbs and I don’t see any reason to depart from this consensus. The state of Kosovo is as illegitimate as any other entity created by force during a period of imperialism. When the Nazis carved out lebensraum from occupied Poland, throwing out the rightful inhabitants and transplanting the towns and villages with foreigners, this was understood by every fair-minded observer to be a wrong in need of righting. The Ottomans, given their treatment of the Armenians and Slavs, should be considered a fascist empire alike that of the Germans. Their Islamist project in the Balkans was designed to gain a synthetic foothold in Europe, from which to launch a later conquest. We must reject this with a united voice and a common energy.

As far as cable news channels go, RT (Russia Today) has long been regarded as admirably broad-minded.

Indeed, the network’s slogan ‘Question More’ is clearly designed to promote a special independence of mind, as well as a willingness to showcase minority opinions.

And it has been true to this goal. In the 9 years of its existence, the channel given a platform to figures as diverse as Nigel Farage, Alex Jones, Norman Finkelstein, Pat Buchanan and Julian Assange.

What (if anything) links this colourful band of characters together is an opposition to globalisation and American Foreign Policy, both of which are imagined by the Kremlin as hostile to Russian interests.

As Joe Pompeo reported:

“RT thrives on covering topics that make the U.S. look bad. Occupy Wall Street gave us images of NYPD officers pepper-spraying peaceful protesters and roughing up members of the press. (Robert) Snowden must have been manna for the network. Still, RT’s journalists swear they’re under no pressure to toe a party line.

“RT also traffics in the type of fringe punditry that’s found an audience across the U.S. media landscape. Its marquee anchor, the zany, histrionic Max Keiser, is a champion of 9/11 trutherism and financial apocalypse. Controversial commentators over the years have included people like the Russian historian who predicted that the dissolution of the United States was nigh, or the American one who believes the CIA is using unwitting citizens as guinea pigs to test dangerous drugs.”

Despite this predilection for exaggeration, RT’s coverage of some issues – notably Syria – has been commendable, with the channel filling a shameful truth-void in the presentations of the West. It is likely as a consequence of this that many patriots in both Europe and America have chosen to overlook the obvious biases of the network toward Putin and China, and welcome its refreshing lack of censorship on issues pertaining to Western policy.

But whatever value could be claimed for RT just a few weeks ago seems now rather more tenuous. The behaviour of the channel since the start of the Ukraine crisis has been shady, immoral and more-than-anything – distinctly amateurish.

Propaganda of the lowest kind has been passed off as news. Groundless accusations (often involving the Jews) have been bandied about with reckless abandon.

The process this effort has tried to defend, furthermore, is now – I argue – inexcusable. The sovereign nation of Ukraine has been mutilated by a vastly more powerful army in clear contravention of international moral standards, and without strategic justification (Russia would always have the Black Sea base at its disposal). The Ukrainian protestors, though there are inevitably some fascists among them, are not all ‘Nazis’ as the network has slanderously claimed. Even RT’s own anchors have rebelled against this tawdry lie-factory, some quitting dramatically on air in protest.

The devil’s bargain patriots have made with the network in the past should now accordingly be revised.

Russia is – needless to say – a very important country, one whose stability is essential to the stability of the world. This importance, together with the rich cultural heritage of the Russian people, makes its current decline into despotic inadequacy a tragedy of global proportion. RT is not a news-service, but a tawdry government mouthpiece suited to an Orwellian hell-state like North Korea, Turkmenistan or Belarus, not the nation of Dostoyevsky, Tchaikovsky and Gagarin.

Russia, to put it simply, is too good for Russia Today. And if that sounds like a play on words, it’s because it is one.

Though still subject to debate, the landscape boundaries of ‘Europe’ have traditionally been drawn over the extremities of Russia in the East, and the coasts of Ireland and Portugal in the West. This mass is usually then cleaved into three (Western, Central and Eastern) cultural areas, each dominated by a regional giant – respectively, France, Germany, and Poland.

When we talk today of the ‘Islamisation of Europe’, we are normally talking exclusively about the Western and Central demarcations. The Eastern part of the continent remains, with a few isolated exceptions, relatively homogenous.

Poland, for an example, is currently over 90% Christian with a Muslim population below 1%. In Ukraine, the majority are either Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, or irreligious, with Muslims barely a trace cultural element. Similar situations to these prevail in Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus, Hungary and Latvia too.

The reason behind this advantageous trend surely counts as one of the grandest ironies in history.

As you know, between the close of World-War II and the fall of the Soviet Union, the nations of Eastern Europe were held in political bondage to Moscow. During this period, the regime which saw fit to rule them, Soviet Communism, reduced such countries to economic ruin, and created a repressive and politically inflexible atmosphere, based – above-all – upon fear.

Throughout the Eastern bloc, young people, upon graduating from their indoctrinated universities, were allowed few aspirations beyond that of joining the cruel Soviet infrastructure itself. Goods were hard to come by. Food-production was poorly managed. Freedom of speech and conduct were radically curtailed. Businesses were bullied by the state, or else sank of their own accord. Only jails and torture chambers conducted a roaring trade.

Into this unfortunate situation, very few non-European immigrants aspired to enter, preferring, quite logically, the wealth and freedom of Paris, Amsterdam and London, to the midnight interrogations and bread queues of Warsaw, Kiev and Minsk.

When the iron curtain finally fell then, and with the seeds of demographic destruction already having been planted to the West of Berlin, Eastern Europeans re-awoke to find their societies starved, disorientated and angry, but otherwise relatively unchanged.

Though in the coming years, Cultural Marxists attempted to launch third-world immigration drives in Poland, Ukraine and Lithuania, they were never successful. Eastern Europeans were immunized to their deceptions by direct, bitter experience. They knew very well all the lies and buzzwords of the Left, having spent years in societies hearing nothing else. They also knew, more importantly, where such lies can lead.

In Britain, there is a running commentary in the football press, regarding the alleged ‘racism’ of Polish and other East-European fans at Euro football matches.

When the Polish national team plays the Dutch squad for example, explicitly racist taunting (monkey impressions, the displaying of bananas and watermelons, use of racial language) is often heard solely from the Polish terraces.

This is – of course – thuggish and unacceptable behavior for any civilized people, but perhaps there is more to this conduct than meets the eye.

These taunts, I believe, are rooted in political memory, and have behind them expressions of relief as well as – perhaps – just a whiff of Schadenfreude….

The Poles see in the (usually all African) ‘Dutch’ football squad, the realization of an ideology they successfully threw off, and which the West, once so chauvinistic, is now itself perishing under.

In the past week, Russian civil society has twice come under attack from violent Jihadists. First, a female suicide bomber struck a train station, killing 17 people. The next day, a second bomber hit, this time on a trolley-bus, the details and death-toll of which are only just emerging as I write.

In both instances, the perpetrators are suspected to be radical separatists from the perennially unstable Caucasus region. Their aim, established many decades ago, is to forcibly secede from the Russian Federation and form a Turkic Muslim state on its southern borders.

Russian policy on such groups has changed over the years, but famously became rather more certain of itself following the ascension to power of Vladimir Putin. Under Putin’s command, the Russian Air Fore reduced vast swathes of the Chechen capital to rubble. Needless to say, there is next-to-no chance the bombers’ wishes will be granted as long Putin remains in the Kremlin.

Hooray! then…. Well, maybe not.

If one looks at the future of Russian demography, with its shriveling Muscovite population, and most of its growth (and future human content) supplied by the regions discussed above, an argument can be made that Russia would actually be better off without some of these areas, at least from a perspective of culture and social-cohesion.

Russia is – after all – hardly lacking in territory. The cessation of Dagestan and Chechnya would be a small price to pay to prevent the Islamisation of a state with enough nuclear weaponry to fulfill some of al-Qaeda’s wildest fantasies.

I have some respect for the Russian President Vladimir Putin. His leadership, though authoritarian and often cruel, has greatly improved the lot of ordinary Russians, among whom the President enjoys considerable affection and support. On Syria too, the President has taken a uniquely rational and firm position, much to the benefit of us all.

That being said, at this weeks G20 summit, Putin made a silly, offhand comment that has offended many in the UK. Talking to a reporter, the President is alleged to have described Britain as ‘a small island nobody listens to’.

Whatever motivated him to say it (almost certainly the Syrian debacle) and though it isn’t technically-speaking a slight on British culture, I must join with the Prime Minister in defending my little island from such a patronizing and ignorant assessment.

David Cameron’s rejoinder has so far met with mixed reviews. Shortly after Putin made the gaffe, our Prime Minister gave a bizarre speech intended to list the glories of British achievement, historic and current. Among the examples he chose were the Beatles and One Direction.

Can’t we do better?

The nation of Russia has roughly 143 million inhabitants and a land mass of 17,000,000 square kilometers. Britain has 60 million citizens and a land mass of 230,000 square kilometers. That is indeed a great difference in size, so hats off to Mr Putin for noticing this. The difference in cultural achievement however is equally large, but this time exactly inverted. Despite its size, Britain can make a claim to be the most inventive country the world has ever known.

The following list is an excerpt from an even larger list of British inventions compiled by the Radio Times:

Light Bulbs, Telephones, Steam Turbines, Electric motors, Cement, Fire Extinguishers, Photography, Chocolate Bars, Television, the Jet Engine, the Kettle, Hovercraft, Vacuum Cleaners, Stainless Steel, the Torpedo, Hypodermic syringes,  the World Wide Web, ATM machines, Carbon Fibre, the Programmable computer and the Military Tank.

Britain’s musical exports have included David Bowie, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Clash, the Sex Pistols, Radiohead, Oasis, Blur, the Smiths, Joy Division, New Order, Pulp, Adele, Massive Attack, Coldplay, Muse, the Who and the Kinks.

British writers, past and present, include Shakespeare, Martin Amis, Phillip Pullman, Byron, Coleridge, Samuel Johnson, Keats,  EL James (sorry), JK Rowling, CS Lewis, De Quincey, John Donne, George Orwell, Thomas Carlyle, Aldous Huxley and Samuel Pepys.

It’s never a bad thing to pat one’s country on the back, especially in the midst of such a bleak political and economic landscape. Whatever else Britain may be, its people are of the profoundest creative quality and without them the world would be considerably poorer.
