If you’re one of those people not yet not au fait with the internet phenomenon/subculture referred to as the ‘Dark Enlightenment’, perhaps the best way to describe it is with reference to its adherents favourite movie scene. This is the moment in The Matrix, when Neo is offered two pills – one blue, one red. The man offering the medicaments, Morpheus, informs Neo that the pills have different metaphysical powers. One of them, the blue one, will send him back to the artificial world of the Matrix (a computer simulation) that he is already familiar with, completely ignorant of the existence of the alternate (real) world. The other pill, the red one, will make it impossible for him to go back to the sleep of unreality. Upon taking it, he will tumble down the rabbit-hole of the truth, however ugly or traumatic he may find that truth to be. As you’re probably aware, Neo boldly chooses the red pill, and so begins the main action of the film. Well, Dark Enlightenment adherents view themselves as embarking upon a comparably journey to Neo’s, and will often refer to themselves as being ‘red-pilled’. But what truths exactly are they discovering? What reality have they entered that is hidden from the majority? The answer is complicated.

It is certainly accurate to say that the Dark Enlightenment is on the political right. Its followers have little sympathy for feminism or political correctness, and on matters of race and racial difference, their views tend to align with those advanced by the likes of Madison Grant and T.H Huxley. Furthermore, one of the labels embraced by the movement since their beginnings is ‘Neo-reactionary’; a pretty baggy definition, but one that clearly denotes a rightward bent.

Some press commentators have even suggested a fascist sentiment motivates the Dark Enlightenment subculture. Jamie Bartlett (writing for the Daily Telegraph), for example, describes the bloggers associated with the movement as ‘sophisticated neo-fascists’.

“Since 2012” he writes “…a sophisticated but bizarre online neo-fascist movement has been growing fast. It’s called “The Dark Enlightenment”… Supporters are dotted all over the world, connected via a handful of blogs and chat rooms. Its adherents are clever, angry white men patiently awaiting the collapse of civilisation, and a return to some kind of futuristic, ethno-centric feudalism… The philosophy, difficult to pin down exactly, is a loose collection of neo-reactionary ideas, meaning a rejection of most modern thinking: democracy, liberty, and equality… The neo-fascist bit lies in the view that races aren’t equal (they obsess over IQ testing and pseudoscience that they claim proves racial differences, like the Ku Klux Klan) and that women are primarily suited for domestic servitude. They call this “Human biodiversity” – a neat little euphemism. This links directly to their desire to be rid of democracy: because if people aren’t equal, why live in a society in which everyone is treated equally? Some races are naturally better to rule than others, hence their support for various forms of aristocracy and monarchy (and not in the symbolic sense but the very real divine-right-of-kings-sense).”

Is this a fair evaluation? I don’t think that matters. What does matter is why men (and presumably some women) find it necessary to hive off into subcultures in the first place. The Dark Enlightenment is clearly a reaction to the culture of extreme (and unnecessary) self-censorship by the academic and intellectual mainstream. We simply don’t talk about the important facts of the world for fear of alienating a single part of it. No, the races are not equal in average intelligence. Nor are the sexes equal. The first-born child is generally more intelligent than his/her younger siblings. The tall are more successful than the short. Women are physically weaker than men. Egalitarianism is a lie. And yes, even Democracy is a stupid idea when reduced to its fundamentals. For if the majority are wrong about something, then society is every bit as doomed with democracy as it would be with a wrong-headed dictator. Etc… Etc…

But creating subcultures around forbidden truths is a dangerous game. Whenever hives of thought arise, the trust generated by basic truth-telling grants the hive-leader authority over his/her followers. Having earned their trust with real (but publically denied) facts, he/she can then sprinkle any kind of abject stupidity on top. And if any mainstream condemnation of this stupidity comes about, it can be ascribed to ‘Leftism’ or the ‘blue pill’. “They told you the races were equal, so why listen to them when they say authoritarian monarchy is bad?”… “They told you affirmative action made sense, so why believe them when they say Jews aren’t in control of the government” Etc…

Denying self-evident truths risks handing intellectual authority to some very shady people indeed. The Dark Enlightenment must be replaced with a straightforward enlightenment. No ‘darkness’ is necessary.

Thank You & Goodbye

I began this blog in January, 2013, largely on a whim. I can still remember coming up with the idea as I waited in the rain for a bus in Wimbledon, London (the bus, as is London tradition, was absurdly late.). Since then, ‘Defend the Modern World’ has been visited over half a million times, chiefly by Brits and Americans, but also by thousands of Australians, Africans, Asians and Middle Easterners, too. I am immensely proud of the work that I have done. I hope that it has done some good.

Last week, I received an offer of a teaching position in Europe. When I taught English in northern Spain last year, mainly to small groups of infants, I managed to carry on the blog simultaneously. However, I have come to the conclusion that it will be difficult for me to do the same this time around.

In light of this, and with regret, I am suspending DTMW from this week forward.

The blog will remain online – I have no intentions of deleting it – and I have scheduled a selection of the old posts I am most proud of to be published over the next few Mondays.

To those who have been loyal readers of this blog, I want to say a heartfelt and sincere thank you. Though the quality of my writing has been greatly uneven, you have always been too kind to point out my failings. I do appreciate that.

It is possible I may pick up the blog again sometime in the future, but this is uncertain. I will try to post on occasion – when the news compels me to say something; say, after a terror attack in the UK or US – but the weekly format is just not something I can keep up.

It would, of course, be impossible to adequately sum up the work of three years in a few paragraphs, so I’ll just say this; my sole motivation in writing DTMW has been an uncomplicated loyalty to Western civilisation. It is, to me, the only culture on Earth worth a penny. Nothing else has inspired me. I have not hated anything. I have sought to help protect something I love.

The contest with Islam is not going away any time soon. I do, however, have faith that we will triumph in the end. Even the most fanatical Muslim knows in his heart that the modern world is superior to the mud-huts and mutilations of the Dar-al-Salaam. We need only be loud and proud about this and eventually even the most stubborn will come around.

I wish you all the greatest possible happiness. Thank you once again for your generosity and encouragement.

Notes on the Islamisation of London VIII.

The other day, as I sat in a train carriage taking me from Birmingham to London, I decided to tilt my head against the window and try to get some sleep. It had been a long, difficult, boring day and the opiate lure of sleep seemed to offer a warm bath for my aching senses.

I didn’t get any though, for no sooner had I shut my eyes than a burly Somali woman crashed down on the seat across the gangway and began to graze like a cow.

Fidgeting around in a small grey trolley bag she removed box after box, flipping off the lids each time with an echoing pop. She prepared what must have been the apperitif – a cold soup, green in colour, similar in appearance to a badly made guacamole.

I remember thinking “Now she is not going to drink that out of the tub….She can’t do.”

Well, she did, and with a noise more distressing than the whoosh of an approaching bullet. An English (or any rate European) woman ( long legs, short dress) stationed in front of the Somali began to wince in time to every slurp. At one point (to my pleasure) she consulted me with a wry, sympathetic smile.

This went on through five courses. After each one, the woman wiped her mouth gracelessly on her flowing black cloak (by the end it looked like the bed-sheets of a mental patient).

When the train docked at Milton Keynes, the Somali woman picked up her bag and departed the carriage, leaving the boxes, wrappers, and copius stains for the poor train crew to deal with.

The train peeled away towards the smoke, and as I took the postponed chance to rest my head, I thought lazily about the differences in moral priotities between a Muslim woman and her equivalent in the West. No doubt for that Somali woman, bedecked in her Hijab and modest cloak, the lady in front who winced at her behaviour was a barbarian. No doubt her short skirt, social independence and unmutilated labia marked her out as someone awaiting civilisation. My thoughts of the Somali – of course – were of the same kind.

And that’s a good (if slightly ludicrous) analogy for the Muslim-Kaffir quarrel itself. As Christopher Hitchens wrote, it is not a ‘clash of civilisations’, but a clash about what constitutes civilisation that most separates East from West.

Or of course, I could be reading too much into a woman with no table manners.

Can We Please Stop Pretending the ‘East-End’ Still Exists?

On the 10th of November, a story in the Daily Mail carried the following headline: “They’re not just for cockneys! Sales of jellied EELS booming outside London for the first time as shoppers cut costs.”

(For those outside the UK, jellied eels are an antiquated snack-food associated with Victorian Cockney (East-End working class) society.)

The article (or rather the headline), despite being intended as light-hearted nonsense, provoked quite a few politicized responses. One such reply read

“London? Cockneys? When was the last time you walked down an East-End street?”

 While another suggested simply:

“Probably because there are no Cockneys left inside the M25.”

These objections are well-founded. Indeed, the very notion of a geo-cultural ‘East-End’ filled with ‘Cockneys’ is even more out-of-date than the stereotype understands.

The “East-End” of London, described on Wikipedia (no less) as ‘coterminous with the borough of Tower Hamlets’, is now almost without trace of its historic identity. If you got off at an East-Central Tube station tommorow, you’d find yourself in a maze of Bangladeshi restaurants, bazaars, curry houses and religious buildings. One thing you wouldn’t see, or at least would be hard-pressed to find, was any living hint of England.

None of this is controversial. All of it was predicted by (and is now indicated in) the official statistics.

Yet still, in the media – no doubt for the benefit of those who rarely visit London – the ‘East-End’ is presented as being frozen in time; a traditional, pub-centred timewarp inhabited by a largely White Working-Class demographic.

Nowhere is this deceit more obvious than in the popular soap opera ‘EastEnders’. For a long while this show has been the second most popular drama in the UK, behind Coronation Street. Despite this popularity and the public trust the BBC is meant to honour, the show brazenly uses for its casting, a demographic model suited to the London of thirty years ago. Eight out of ten characters are non-Asian. Most are White, nominally Christian, family-centred and employed. If this were a real and representative slice of the contemporary East-End, the minority fifth would be the English, and the majority would be benefit-claiming Muslims.

The audience outside of London, if they haven’t bothered to find out otherwise, might reasonably infer from the ‘Walford’ universe that the Islamisation of the East-End never happened.

And why on Earth would the BBC want to give that impression?

Charlene Downes.

If you’re not from the United Kingdom, you may never have heard the name ‘Charlene Downes’ before. In England however, her name is known by anyone with an internet connection.

I say ‘internet connection’ advisedly, as the Downes case has been scarcely reported in the mainstream media, and for reasons both contemptible and (sadly) familiar. Her disappearance and ‘alleged’ murder by ‘allegedly’ Muslim groomers in the seaside town of Blackpool in 2003, has since become a rallying point for ‘Islamophobes’ (and ethno-nationalists) across the North of England. The flatlining British National Party have for years featured the Downes case on their website, and have established links with Charlene’s parents. Demonstrations (led by the BNP) have also been held to criticize the police investigation into the case, the mistakes of which have allowed Ms Downes’ killer(s) to remain free.

You might well ask, ‘Why this particular case?”. There are many thousands of Muslim grooming victims in the UK, each case equally horrific. Why does Charlene’s tragedy seem to allow for a special  and lasting vitriol?

To understand this, we must describe exactly what is alleged to have happened.

On Saturday, November the 1st, 2003, Ms Downes departed from her mother near the centre of Blackpool, Lancashire. She was apparently going to meet friends in the amusement arcades. Since that departure, only one or two sightings are reported, and Downes would never be seen again (…at least by her family.)

At the trial of a gang of Muslims in 2007, it was alleged that Ms Downes (14 years old) had been the victim of paedophilic ‘grooming’  for many weeks prior to her disappearance, and that (allegedly) on this occasion the gang responsible had decided to murder her and subsequently dispose of the body.

It is the manner in which the gang are said to have disposed of Ms Downes’ which explains the case’s lasting and sinister notoriety.

Covering the trial in 2007, the Telegraph reported that ‘

‘A witness had heard Albattikhi ( the ringleader) and others talking about Charlene in an alleyway.

“These people were talking about sex with white girls, and there was mention of having sex with Charlene,” he said.

“Albattikhi laughed and said she was very small – the plainest possible indication that he was lying to the police when he said he did not know her. He and others present then laughingly said that Charlene had gone into the kebabs.”

Since no trace of Ms Downes has ever been found, and since Mr Albattikhi ran a fast-food shop, there is every reason not to write this off as a joke. Indeed, it was treated seriously in court, and remains a revolting and yet sadly feasible theory as to Ms Downes’ fate.

Despite the evidence presented, the case was eventually thrown out of court and Charlene’s killers remain at large. The verdict hasn’t changed many peoples minds as to who carried out the killing.

As I said above, the Downes’ case has since been claimed (as a cause) by the ethno-nationalist right. The Counter-Jihad movement should never have allowed this to happen. The BNP association has arguably endangered the case and hindered the pursuit of justice. Since we are now close to the 10 year anniversary of Ms Downes’ disappearance, and given the undeniably gruesome notoriety the case has assumed, perhaps it’s time the movement itself did more to re-contextualize the case and remind people of the larger issue at hand.

A Saddening Glimpse of London’s Future.

It’s easy to lapse into false optimism about Muslim immigration, especially if one views things solely through ones own generational lens. Most commonly, it’s only when viewed from ‘below’ as it were, that things enter their statistical context.

I was riding an almost empty bus from Wimbledon to Fulham the other afternoon, when the clock struck 3:30pm, and the vehicle hummed to a stop outside a local secondary school.

The doors slid open, and within seconds, the Western World seemed to disappear.

Gone was England, its green fields and marble arches, and to replace it, a rowdy band of Somalians and Pakistanis. I couldn’t count, but the swarm of conquisotors must have been 20 to 25 strong. A deafening pet-shop chorus quickly filled the air around me.

The school itself, I noted, looked to be from the Blair-era; i.e. a type of modernized state school with the deliberate ambience of a college. Any thought that the school was strictly Islamic was undermined by a number of native students wearing the same uniform. This only served to make it even more depressing. 

As I sat there for the remainder of the journey, surrounded by a forest of prayer caps and headscarves, I felt like some sort of gap-year missionary, flown in to demonstrate house-building or agriculture to the poor of Mogadishu. Few of the children communicated with each other in English, and those who did, only managed the bastardised slang of urban ghettos.

Still, the figures on these matters, with which I am usually so well acquainted, ought to have dulled any surprise I felt. London’s natural demographic growth (i.e that which is not attributable to fresh immigration) is greatest in those areas dominated by Muslims. Tower Hamlets, Brent and Haringey all have ballooning populations, and since this incident occurred in the leafy opulence of West-London, there must also be hives of conquest closer to home.

Demography, the study of these changes in population, is a miserable science. It’s made all the worse for its definitude. One can’t argue with it, debate it, mitigate it, or challenge it. The movements within demography can be as soundly predicted as any other calculus. That swarm, – that loud, semi-literate band of youth previously described – is the future of London. There is no way around it. Barring their mass generational suicide, that lucky collection will inherit the priceless city of Edward Gibbon (‘Decline and Fall’ – the greatest ever application of the English language – was written around the same area).

How very ironic. How very sad.

The Last Days of the Netherlands.

I’ve always felt a personal connection with the Netherlands (often referred to – by erroneous convention – as ‘Holland’). My surname at birth was Dutch. One branch of my family, though now based in England, remains fluent in the beautiful Dutch language; something I’m hugely envious of and seemingly unable to master for myself. As a child, I supported the Dutch team in the Euro football tournament and my boyhood idol was the brilliant Arsenal striker Dennis Bergkamp.

I have visited the country only once in my lifetime; a frat-boy weekend in Amsterdam to experiment with some of the local ‘horticulture’. To be honest with you, that particular experience was a huge letdown. I found the ‘Coffee shops’ (and their products) to be very boring, and I had little interest in seeking out any other (higher) form of culture.

Still, I intend to revisit the city next year, albeit this time for a very different reason.

As anyone who reads the CounterJihad press on a regular basis will be aware, the Netherlands is currently undergoing an especially severe process of Islamic colonization; in my judgment, the worst case of its kind in Europe, exceeding even the likes of France and Sweden. 

While we’re all aware of the ‘celebrity’ flashpoints of this process (The sadistic butchery of Theo Van Gogh, and the threat to kill his accessory Ayaan Hirsi Ali; the rise of the controversial politician Geert Wilders; the murder of anti-Islam liberal Pym Fortuyn by a pro-Muslim Leftist etc…), these occasional spectaculars do not do justice to the everydayness of Dutch suffering. 

I want to see what I’ve read about with my own eyes.

When I visited Amsterdam all those years ago, I had yet to attend University (the experience of which radically altered my view of Islam), and so I was still a fairly left-wing guy, not really keeping an eye out for Muslims, or crime, or crucially the connection between the two.

One thing I do remember though, was strolling late at night through a seedy area of town, not far from our (equally seedy) hotel. I was very drunk, as was my friend, and so we were speaking English rather carelessly. Our foreign accents seemed to attract the attention of some North-African youths on bicycles, who then began to approach us in the dark.

The elder of the group (anorexic and shaven-headed) stopped his bike close to where we stood, and asked if we were looking for drugs. As I said, we were very naive at the time and so were stupidly thrilled to be asked such a thing.

Politely, in our middle-class, East-Midland accents, we enquired what he had to offer. He wouldn’t go into detail he said, and then he asked how much money we had in our pockets. Before we could answer, we noticed that two of the other youths had quietly veered their bikes to take up positions behind us. It became obvious what was about to happen.

Thankfully, a group of other youngsters, very drunk and conspicuously different in appearance to our would-be robbers, came close enough for us to use them as cover and scurry away.

I’ve spent long enough in London now to know this is nothing out of the ordinary. I only raise it as Moroccan crime is (sadly) a defining feature of modern Dutch life. To grasp the magnitude of this blight, consider the following assessment by Bruce Bawer in FrontPageMag:

“In Den Bosch (Note: a city south of Amsterdam) just under half of young Moroccan males between 12 and 24  (47.7 percent, to be exact) have police records.  (That’s up from 45 percent last year.)  In a long list of other cities  (Zeist, Gouda, Veenendaal, Amersfoort, Maassluis, Oosterhout, Schiedam, Nijmegen, Utrecht, Ede, Leiden, and The Hague) the figure also topped 40 percent.  In every municipality that was studied, incidentally, the scores for Moroccan youths far outstripped those for ethnic Dutch kids, among whom an average of 13 percent of boys in the same age cohort had come in for similar police attention during the same period.”

The statistics Bawer mentions are legitimized by personal accounts too numerous to reproduce. The truth is available for those willing to see it. 

Turning from the present to the future, if you’ve ever visited (and I don’t recommend it) the crackpot Nazi forum ‘Stormfront’, you’ll have noticed a reccuring theme of discussion concerns the logistics and probable outcomes of a ‘race war’. By this, they mean a scenario where law and order collapses in a Western country, and the natives have to physically fight minorities for national sovereignty. In America for example, Stormfronter’s guess that Blacks, Asians and Hispanics would likely overpower the Whites. In Canada or Australia on the other hand, the Whites would be more likely to win etc…

Well, I clearly have no interest in ‘race-war’ politics, but it does pay to wonder where the balance of physical power lies between Muslims and Kaffir in Europe, especially in a country where political activists have been brazenly murdered on their own streets.

In Amsterdam, the native Dutch at present number barely half the population. A similar situation holds in cities like Rotterdam and The Hague. Things are only marginally better (30%+ immigrant pop) in Eindhoven and the City of Utrecht.

These cities are not chosen at random. They are the 5 largest urban centres in the country. If you’re English and want to understand what this is like, imagine if Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and London had an immigrant population share of over 35% (currently this is only true of London and – debatably – of Birmingham).

Furthermore, while the Dutch are still a (slight) majority in their urban centres – they are not often a ‘fight-ready’ majority. By this I mean that ‘Dutch’ Muslims are (numerically and socially) dominant among youth. They (together with other immigrant groups) represent the healthiest, quickest, and strongest portion of society. If a cultural war broke out between Muslim youths and elderly Kafir, there is every reason to believe that Muslims would seize whole cities across the country.

Considering all this, one inevitably wonders why the Dutch haven’t resisted more aggressively. But really, that question should be asked of every country in Europe. We mustn’t forget this is our struggle too. The Dutch are just further along the same road.

It’s heartbreaking to say it of the nation of Rembrandt and Van Gogh, but given another ten years on this demographic trajectory, the Netherlands will almost certainly become the first EU nation to be physically dominated by Islam.
